William Barr

William Barr served as Attorney General of the United States from 2019 to 2020 under President Donald Trump. He previously held the same position from 1991 to 1993 under President George H. W. Bush.
Barr was Attorney General at the time of Jeffrey Epstein’s arrest and subsequent death in federal custody in August 2019. Following Epstein’s death, Barr publicly stated that there were “serious irregularities” at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in Manhattan and directed investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death. The Department of Justice Inspector General later issued a report examining failures in monitoring and staffing at MCC. Barr’s role relates to oversight of the Department of Justice during the relevant period.
